How to Use a Microwave Dryer: A Practical Guide

How to Use a Microwave Dryer: A Practical Guide

Fruit and vegetables, condiments, nuts, meat products, etc. are the mainstream processing categories in the food processing industry. Traditional hot air drying process generally has many pain points: long heating period, uneven heating of materials, easy burning of local materials, large loss of nutrients and low production efficiency. Microwave dryer is the core special equipment for deep processing of food, which can solve various shortcomings of traditional hot air drying from the root, and realize low temperature fast drying, sterilization and quality assurance processing of materials in the field of industrial microwave food processing.

一、Microwave dryer working principle

Microwave dryer uses microwave electromagnetic field as an energy medium. Under the action of a high-frequency microwave field, polar water molecules in the material rub back and forth at high speed, and the material generates heat synchronously from the inside to complete dehydration and drying, which is different from the heat conduction heating mode of traditional equipment from outside to inside. The working heat generated by the magnetron of the equipment is dissipated by the forced air cooling system or cooling water circulation. By adjusting the microwave output power and the running speed of the conveyor belt, the working temperature in the cavity is accurately controlled, so that the moisture in the material is vaporized and discharged from the cavity by the moisture exhaust fan, so as to realize the drying, sterilization, curing and other processes of the material.

二、Operating procedures for microwave dryer

Your standard and orderly operation is the key to guaranteeing product quality and protecting equipment.

1. Equipment installation and commissioning

Place the air-cooled microwave dryer on a well-ventilated, flat and stable ground, and level the whole machine. Properly connect the power supply, ensure sufficient cooling space around the air inlet of the equipment, and timely discharge the water vapor evaporated from the materials. No-load test run shall be carried out after installation. Check the operation of the conveyor belt, air cooling and heat dissipation system and working state of the moisture exhaust fan, and confirm that there is no abnormal sound or microwave leakage. Adjust the baffle and stop assembly according to material specifications.

2. Check before use

Clean the material residues inside the conveyor belt and drying chamber before startup to complete equipment cleaning. Check the fastening of electrical wiring terminals, confirm the air cooling system, confirm the state of materials to be processed and prepare raw materials for production.

3. Machine start and operation

Turn on the heat dissipation system and the moisture exhaust fan successively, and set the microwave output power, belt conveying speed and cavity working temperature. Uniformly pave the materials to be processed on the conveying belt at the feed end, and the materials shall be of uniform thickness and shall not be stacked too thick. When the equipment is started, the materials continuously pass through the microwave cavity along with the belt, and are heated and dried by the microwave. The operator shall observe the material state at the discharge outlet and adjust the power and belt speed as required to avoid the material being burnt or the drying degree not reaching the standard.

4. Cleaning and maintenance

Cut off the power supply of the whole machine at the end of daily production. When the cavity and magnetron assembly are fully cooled, remove the removable parts in the cavity that come into contact with the materials, remove the material residues, and prevent the carbonization of residues to breed bacteria. Wipe the chamber and conveyor belt with a soft cloth to keep the equipment clean and dry; regularly check the heat dissipation system, magnetron, sealing parts, conveyor belt and other vulnerable parts, and replace them in case of aging and damage to ensure stable and continuous production.

三、Common Microwave Dryer Faults and Solutions

It is very important for front-line operators and maintenance personnel of food processing plants to be familiar with equipment failure causes and troubleshooting methods.

1. Fault 1: No microwave output after the equipment is started, and the material does not heat up

Cause: heat dissipation failure, magnetron damage, abnormal supply voltage.

Solution: check whether the air cooling and heat dissipation fan operates, whether the air inlet filter screen is blocked or whether the water cooling system pipeline has refrigerant leakage; check the power supply voltage and replace the damaged components in time.

2. Fault 2: Uneven drying effect, some materials are over-browned and some materials have excessive water content

Cause: uneven material laying thickness, improper setting of conveyor belt speed and mismatching of microwave power parameters.

Solution: spread materials evenly and readjust belt speed and microwave output power.

3. Fault 3: Serious moisture accumulation in the cavity, poor moisture removal effect

Cause: exhaust fan failure, exhaust duct blockage.

Solution: overhaul the moisture exhaust fan, clean the sundries in the exhaust duct and ensure that the water vapor is discharged smoothly from the cavity.

4. Fault 4: Abnormal sound during equipment operation

Cause: offset friction of conveyor belt, foreign matter falling into cavity, wear of fan bearing.

Solution: shut down and cut off the power, open the cavity to remove foreign matter, adjust the tension of the conveyor belt, and overhaul the fan assembly.

四、Precautions for Using a Microwave Dryer

Getting familiar with the key points of equipment operation can help operators develop standard operation habits, reduce the faults caused by manual operation, and reduce the maintenance cost and material loss.

1. Check the working state of the heat dissipation system and the moisture exhaust fan before startup; the air inlet of the equipment must be kept unobstructed, and do not block the heat dissipation air inlet.

2. Before and after the equipment is used, all material-contacting parts shall be thoroughly cleaned, and no combustible material residue shall be left in the cavity.

3. It is forbidden to send metal objects into the microwave cavity to prevent the magnetron from being burned by sparks in the cavity.

4. Operate in strict accordance with the rated power and prohibit overload operation to avoid equipment damage and potential safety hazards.

5. In case of ignition, abnormal sound, burnt smell and other abnormalities during operation, shut down the machine immediately and cut off the power. Maintain the machine after it is fully cooled. It is forbidden to continue production with faults.
